From times
immemorial man has used stone as a building material. Stone was always giving
the feeling of security and confidence at home. Some time later only the rich
could afford to use natural stone as a building material. During the forties, a
new technology known presently as press-concrete, was developed in the USA, in
which moulds were pressed to a surface, to make it look like natural stone. In a
short time, first trials to apply this technology on walls and elevations were
undertaken and it was used up to the sixties. At the same time new trials with
latex, rubber and silicone moulds were started in various centres. Since then
the production of artificial stone is possible. The only problems were that the
stone looked artificial and was usually weak in a technical sense. As a result
of further attempts suitable forms were obtained, which truly render the shape
of a stone and the coloration technologies enable to obtain a stone, which does
not differ in appearance from natural one. In Poland this technology
has been present for many years, but the attempts to use it in various regions
of the country did not meet clients expectations, because the stones had a
narrow variety of shapes, the appearance of the slabs was uniform and recurrent
and they were mass-coloured, what resulted in their artificial appearance. It
was undoubtedly the effect of very high costs of moulds
preparation. The technology introduced by NEK company since 1989
brought about a main change in this sphere of industry, and low costs and high
quality of products promise future successes of the company and its
product.
